Would you agree that hospitality is empathy service? That's where service means anticipating anything and everything that reduces a guest’s stress, confusion & anxiety in order to bring them to a place of wonder, comfort and discovery during stressful times in unfamiliar surroundings.
Life is different now.
We are in a future that is asking us to make adjustments.
And maybe you’ve been thinking over what hospitality will be like from here on out.
I sure have. It will be more important than ever to offer compassionate hospitality. Because we will all be skittish for a while. Maybe, as I do sometimes, you feel hopeful and anxious at the same time.

Turn Anxiety into Discovery Every time a manager's day is interrupted to assist a staff member, that is time that both the guest and you have squandered.
Every time a guest becomes irritated, confused or anxious it will reflect back on their impression of your property.
10 minutes x 6 unneeded interactions by 1 staffer = 1 hour/day x 365 days @ $20/hr = $7300 of time value
This is time in addition to when your guest was trying to answer the question alone before asking for help. This is time staff could be handling other tasks.

It has been my privilege to rely on the talents and resources of Iris Orsini and her HandyGuide product for the past 12 years.
Starting in 2008, as president of the Westwood Chamber of Commerce, we co-developed a town wide map which proved invaluable in way-finding, directing business from one merchant to the next, and keeping our clients shopping, dining, and using the services within our community.
The most recent all inclusive publication was published one year ago and included businesses that had just signed leases. By anticipating their openings by more than a year we kept the guide very relevant.

There is of course MY backstory: Pre-babies I was a bench scientist and then a product manager. I was in the first wave of folks to fall in love with desktop publishing with the one Apple Macintosh in the marketing department. In ‘86 I shocked hubby by taking this putty colored box home from work to typeset the sales catalog. Now hubby was a Bell Labs researcher, an electrical engineer and part of the first wave of computer scientists. The concept of lay people (me) frequently and easily taking a PC to a new place was a totally novel concept. I did blow his mind a bit ;)
So 10 years later, in '96, I really did only need a laptop and with a design program loaded to begin building my vision for easing life with handy reference tools.
