Below is an example of a potential Nirvana Living service: a training for precision nutrition for optimal wellness by analyzing your inherited SNP profile. This is a work-in-progress speaking to health futurists—a logic sequence designed to help those wishing to heal. At present, this module is packaged for individuals with a college-level biochem foundation. Open minded nutritionists that assist functional MD patients are a welcome audience.
The insights driving this endeavor have been accumulating for some time. Now, with advancements in AI platforms, the mission has become much more feasible. My motivation stems from a strong sense of responsibility to share the knowledge gained from guiding my own health improvements to benefit others experiencing discomfort with disease symptoms. I trust that my early experience as a research scientist and medical marketing communicator, combined with decades in design publishing, merges effectively to produce teachings, protocols, and resource referrals. My aim is to teach others the most current understandings of the human body to support a higher level of informed consent when considering treatment options for healing pain and alleviating suffering.

It is a fiction that all foods are good for everyone
Let’s rewire our outdated nutritional programing
Foods Providing Catalase to Help Process Vitamin C
Foods Providing Catalase that Help Process Vitamin C
Catalase is an enzyme in plant cells of which 20-50% survives your digestion to support your body’s production of Catalase. Those of us with a SNP limiting the body’s production can benefit from increasing this food nutrient by eating these raw vegetables and fruits.
Cruciferous Vegetables, Roots & Tubers that provide high nutrient levels: broccoli, kale, collard greens, turnip greens, cabbage, sweet potatoes
Fruits that provide medium nutrient levels: bananas, avocados, cherries, apricots, peaches, cantaloupe
Catalase Supplements are an option as acid-resistant 500mg capsules with 12,500 CatU = Catalase Units where 1 CatU = 1 U = 1 µmol H₂O₂/min = 25 U/mg = 25 mM H₂O₂/min/g
Vitamin C Processing Requires Catalase
Iris discusses the intersection of perfect functional biochemistry, individual genetic variations (SNP profiles), and environmental exposures (nutrients, supplements, toxins) in determining how substances are processed in the body.
Using vitamin C as an example, she explains that while perfect function assumes ideal enzyme activity, genetic differences such as a catalase enzyme production deficiency can limit processing. This highlights the importance of considering genetic makeup to understand biochemical processing and nutrient utilization.
Key Points
What does the term 'perfect function' refer to in the context of biochemistry?
The theoretical 100% efficient biochemical processes – the ideal assumed in traditional nutritional programs. ANALOGY: Think of the factory specs of car components – how it’s supposed to run when every part is perfectly machined, oiled, installed, maintained.
What role do SNP profiles play in individual biochemical function?
SNP (single nucleotide polymorphisms) profiles are small gene variations that affect enzyme functions, making biochemical processes unique to each person and their descendants. ANALOGY: It’s like understanding your car’s quirks – why the steering pulls left or the engine backfires.
What types of exposures are considered in the biochemical processing model?
Exposures include food, nutrients, supplements, toxins, lotions, smoke, and other environmental factors that the body must process. ANALOGY: It’s the fuel octane, oil grade, wiper fluid, electrical fuses, brake pads that impact how the car performs.
How does the example of vitamin C metabolism illustrate the concept of perfect function and individual variation?
Vitamin C metabolism involves about five enzymes; if someone has a catalase deficiency, their ability to process vitamin C is limited, while others with optimal enzyme combinations can process it fully. ANALOGY: A car firing on 3 instead of 4 cylinders still moves, but it’s not performing to factory specs.
Can supplementation always compensate for enzyme deficiencies according to the explanation?
Not always; while some enzymes such as catalase might be available, not every enzyme has a corresponding supplement to compensate for deficiencies.
Have you ever know a family with several kids?
Aren’t the children all so different: looks, weight, height, personality?
Well we now know why . . . each human has a DNA sequence as a result of their parents’ genome co-mingling to yield a new unique combination. Your DNA, your SNP profile, is a swirled mixture from both family branches. Here’s a simplified visual of how children inherit particular combinations and therefore unique biochemical functioning.
Our 23 pairs of chromosomes carry our genetic code consisting of 30,000 genes with more that 600,000 details.
Semantic Scholar has a PDF with this DNA graphic Discovery of DNA Structure and Function: Watson and Crick
Nurse Key’s Chapter on Genetics and Genomics in Critical Care steps through these concepts with this SNP graphic showing how an amino acid combination deviates from an ideal pairing.
Now that we grasp the complexity of our genetics we can begin to appreciate how an analysis can highlight our disease vulnerabilities.
I now eat for my best functioning
What I ingest these days is very different from what I used to binge on. These days there are many foods and food substances that are not longer ‘on the menu’.

Digestive Function
Our digestive system uses a collection of enzymes to chop up big food molecules into smaller, absorbable pieces—such as turning starches into sugars or proteins into amino acids.
Mouth Saliva – carbs and fat
Saliva Alpha-Amylase
Lingual Lipase
Stomach – protein and fat
Pepsin
Gastric Lipase
___ase and ___in endings denote it’s an enzyme
___ine ending denotes it’s a protein
Pancreas | Small Intestine – protein, carbs and fat
Pancreatic Amylase
Trypsin protease protein-buster
Chymotrypsin
Carboxypeptidase
Pancreatic Lipase
Maltase
Sucrase

Liver – In three phases
Liver System
Anything your liver cannot take apart for processing becomes a toxic substance in your body.
-
Oxidation/Reduction enzymes modify toxins
-
Enzymes conjugate reactive intermediates from Phase 1 with molecules to make them water-soluble for excretion.
In other words, the degree to which your particular SNP profile assists in your ability to produce these key enzymes, determines the strength of your Phase 2 Liver function.
